Opti Munich launches €5,000 green award

Opti has launched a €5,000 prize for opticians working on sustainability.

The winner will be announced at the Munich show, running 12–14 January 2024. The money will fund their initiative or can be donated to a climate project of their choice.

Entries could cover action to reduce microplastic pollution, alternative energy supply, climate-neutral projects, the design of business premises, workforce diversity or more. They must be sustainable action in social, economic or ecological areas, in line with the UN sustainable development goals.

Christian Müller, president of the Central Association of Opticians and Optometrists (Zentralverband der Augenoptiker und Optometristen, ZVA), said, “Every single contribution to a better eco-balance in ophthalmic optics counts. The more participants, the more effectively the positive results will be felt in the industry.

“For opti and for ophthalmic optics, the Sustainability Award is above all a question of attitude in the awareness of our social co-responsibility.”

The awards are open to opticians or hearing aid acousticians. They will be judged by the Association for Sustainability in Ophthalmic Optics (Interessengemeinschaft (IG) Nachhaltigkeit in der Augenoptik). The deadline for applications is 15 November.

Pitches by the selected finalists, the jury’s decision and the award ceremony will be presented live at the opti Sustainability Hub on Friday 12 January.
