Wazi launches design competition for “Afro-centric” eyewear

Designers and artists based or working in Africa have been invited to submit their ideas to create the next pair of Wazi glasses.

Launched in 2017, Wazi is the first prescription eyewear brand designed, manufactured and distributed in Africa, creating all of its glasses in Uganda using sustainable, upcycled, locally-sourced materials like plastic, wood, barkcloth, recycled fabric and horn.

Six categories are up for grabs: Adult – Men, Adult – Women, Adult – Unisex, Children – Girls, Children – Boys, and Children – Unisex. The winning design for each category will give its designer the chance to collaborate with the brand, as well as win a cash prize of up to £1,500.

Designs must be submitted by 21 March, and the winners will be announced on 10 May.

Find out more about the competition by visiting the Wazi website or click here to submit your design now!
