As opticians we are called upon to manage all aspects of eyecare. We must have an underpinning knowledge of the anatomy of the eye & be able to triage effectively & work within our competence when we are required to give advice related to eye health conditions & emergencies.
We must also recognise when we do not have the skill to manage or diagnose injury or pathology. We must then refer to a suitably qualified colleague who can assume the care for the patient.
In this article we will refresh our knowledge of the anatomy of the eye & in subsequent article we will explore the external eye & adnexa and its triage & management.
