Faced with an economic crisis that has been affecting the eyewear sector for several years, the leaders of 40 internationally recognised eyewear brands, acting independently of any trade union, have decided to take action to promote “true” Made in France 100% French eyewear.
The collective’s demands are two-fold: that the place of manufacture become a compulsory indication on the frames, in an effort to be truthful towards the consumer (this is already the case in the USA and the Middle East); and that complementary health insurance companies be able to better reimburse a frame made in France.
Today, complementary health insurance companies reimburse frames indifferently, with a maximum of €100 every two years. At that level, it is impossible for the consumer to buy a frame that has been made in France without any additional cost. Raising this reimbursement ceiling to €250 would allow many French people to buy frames made in France.
