International eye health charity appoints new chief executive

Vision Aid Overseas has rebranded, and is now known as Vision Action. The charity has a new chief executive, James Riggs.

James will expand fundraising and introduce new sustainable programmes in sub-Saharan Africa. He has been a consultant since 2020 at the Education Development Trust UK, part of an international not-for-profit organisation that works to improve school systems and provide employment and careers services to young people and adults. He was previously chief executive of Alma Mater Education in Ghana.

Vision Action aims to increase access to glasses, eyecare and treatment for eye diseases, helping children do better in school as well as improving the lives of adults. It also trains eyecare staff including nurses and technicians. The charity currently operates in Ethiopia, Ghana, Sierra Leone and Zambia.
