Lens innovations demonstrated at MIDO 2023

Manufacturer IOT showcased their photochromic lens, Neochromes, at MIDO in Milan, 4 to 6 February.

Neochromes is a line of high-performance, light-activated lenses. The firm also highlighted COSME, an ultra-high precision, automated cosmetic lens inspection technology, powered by artificial intelligence. It was developed jointly with Automation & Robotics, a company specialising in measurement analysis tools for product quality assurance and process control in the ophthalmic industry. IOT produces 35m lenses a year and operates in 69 countries.

More than 35,000 industry professionals visited MIDO, 80% from Europe. There were more than 1,000 exhibitors.

The winner of the award for best designed optical store was Sabino Bux for Ottica Bux, in Altamura, Italy, pictured right. Judges cited the mix of elegance and luxury, art and craftsmanship, and linking eyewear to the world of music.

The Bestore innovation award went to Megaoptikastore in Lviv, Ukraine, by Taras Proniv. It was praised for combining ophthalmic disease treatment, advanced diagnostics and a wide selection of products, during wartime.

The next MIDO will be 3 to 5 February 2024 in Milan.
