Daniel’s business is named The Eyewear Stylist, because he has dedicated his career to specializing in a unique and essential niche within the field of optics: eyewear styling. He believes that each client is unique. Tailoring his consultations to meet their specific needs, he takes the time to understand their lifestyle, preferences, and vision requirements with the ultimate goal of ensuring that his clients leave with eyewear that boosts their confidence and complements their personalities. He prioritizes clear, empathetic, and engaging communication with clients to ensure they feel understood and valued resulting in individualised solutions. “I strive to make my studio a welcoming and comfortable space where clients feel at ease. From offering locally sourced refreshments from my custom beer-fridge to providing a relaxed consultation environment, in my private studio, which allows the client to feel at ease with complete privacy, every detail is designed with the client’s comfort in mind. A client recently remarked how the calming atmosphere of the studio made their eyewear selection process stress-free and enjoyable.”
Daniel continuously updates his knowledge about the latest trends, technologies, and advancements in eyewear. One way he does this is to visit international trade shows but not just to visit and talk to exhibitors, he also interviews attendees. He does this to find out the reasons behind why they do what they do and question them to get insights on optics that he may have not previously heard. “This allows me to broaden my knowledge on eyewear, both in frames, lenses and the industry as a whole across the world, which enables me to offer informed recommendations and answer any questions my clients may have about anything to do with eyewear.” He frequently participates in industry conferences and panels, sharing his expertise on eyewear trends and styling techniques.
Daniel took his styling skills to the next level by training as a Personal Stylist in London with expert Personal Stylist Nisha Hunjan through her StyleMe Academy. One of the expertise he developed through this course was Colour Analysis. He has since incorporated Colour Analysis sessions into his eyewear styling appointments to help guide clients into finding their range of most flattering colours when selecting eyewear. He is also taking this to the next level by enrolling in the London College of Style Colour Course Diploma, to become a true Colour expert.
Using his skills as a dispensing optician, he has also worked with clients who have unique facial structures and struggle to find glasses that fit well. By paying close attention to every detail, he is able to find custom-fit solutions that enhance their appearance and comfort.
After the consultation, Daniel follows up with clients to ensure their satisfaction with their new eyewear. All of his clients have his mobile number contact for WhatsApp. If adjustments are needed, he arranges for timely fittings or replacements, demonstrating his commitment to their happiness and comfort. It is also only at this point that he will ask for a Google Review, once they have had a chance to make sure they are fully happy with their glasses and his service. This is part of Daniel’s social media strategy where he leverages various platforms to connect with a broader audience, showcasing his expertise and engaging with followers effectively with visual storytelling which provides a visual testimony of his work and educational content.
Daniel is committed to sustainability in his practice. This includes offering frames made from eco-friendly materials, partnering with brands that prioritize ethical production, and even running recycling programs for old or unused eyewear via Vision Aid Overseas. He is also co-chair of the Sustainability and Social Value Network for MediaCityUK, which brings together local businesses and includes the likes of the BBC, ITV, Manchester City Council and Transport for Greater Manchester. Daniel organizes quarterly events that highlight the importance of supporting sustainable and social value initiatives in the community.
Daniel has a unique business model in the UK. “At The Eyewear Stylist, I’ve gone against the typical optical model and do not offer sight tests. Clients bring their prescriptions to me and pay me a fee (99 GBP) to style them in eyewear. This is not typical in our industry, and shows how I am improving the value that is perceived of the role of Dispensing Optician in selecting eyewear for clients. I work by appointment only, creating a premium brand and experience for my clients. I have broadened my offering to offer online eyewear styling advice sessions to clients internationally that simply want help to know what eyewear would suit them. Within my online styling advice sessions I also refer clients to local independent opticians in their area, which helps the wider independent optical community.”
Daniel’s shop design adds to the special experience. His studio is unique in that it has no shop front - a private studio in MediaCityUK, above famous TV studios where they film many major TV Shows like The Voice. He works on appointment only, helping to create a luxury experience. The studio is designed to make the experience as comfortable and premium as possible for the client. He has a beer fridge with local beverages from a local brewery, complimentary refreshments and chocolates. The client can even pop a bottle of champagne open to celebrate their new eyewear reveal. He also boasts a beautiful coffee machine to make fresh coffees for clients upon arrival, noting how the client likes their coffee, so he can be as prepared as possible for their next visit. The studio features music that caters to the client’s preference.
Daniel also offer home visits and does pop-ups across the country.
Unique product offerings include: custom frame designs not available in mainstream retail, limited edition collections, collaborative designing of frames with the client, a bespoke wedding service, personalised lenses, working with other artisans like jewellers and footwear makers.
Daniel has mentored emerging dispensing opticians, offering guidance, support, and practical advice as they begin their careers. He is also collaborating with industry leaders to develop and promote best practices and standards in dispensing opticianry.
