New head for Opticians Association Ghana

Thomas Kofi Brusah is the new general secretary of the Opticians Association of Ghana (OAG).

Thomas says: “This is very special for me, as I have been part of this organisation since its inception and had the opportunity to witness its struggles and achievements over the past decade. We have achieved some success and recognition through dedicated leadership and committed members which I am privileged to be part.

“The tenth anniversary allows us to come, network, and strengthen our partnership. Critical conversations will continue, and actions will be taken for the next decade.

“The challenges we face as leaders and the excitement in members for what we do are the catalysts of our energy to strive.”

The OAG has experienced substantial growth in its membership base since it was founded a decade ago, he added, and has gained recognition as a credible and authoritative professional body.

It has also developed training programmes and a new curriculum including refraction, certifications and ongoing professional development opportunities.

The OAG succeeded in securing a review of the optician grade as a move towards fair compensation, safe working conditions and legal protections for members.
