Recently, IOA President Fiona Anderson gave a presentation to members of Optical Dispensers Australia, on the subject of Paediatric Dispensing.
Fiona explained how paediatric dispensing is a highly skilled & complex skill that requires patience, expertise & practice. She said, “Kids are NOT scaled down adults – their proportions are very different to a fully grown person.”
Fiona’s talk covered topics including communication, ametropia/prescription considerations, acceptability before moving on to focus on dispensing process, measurements, lenses, frames, fitting and aftercare.
After her talk, Fiona commented, “It really was my pleasure and it’s so great to get lots of questions afterwards - it shows what an engaged set of members there are in Australia.”
April Petrusma, Chief Executive Officer of the ODA commented, I would like to extend a huge thank you for last nights presentation. It was so well received and we have already had requests for the recording. There are very few (if any) options for paediatric training in Australia so I feel like this really hit the mark in filling some of the gap.”
