The rumors that have been circulating for a while now have finally been confirmed : American giant Apple is preparing to launch its own pair of augmented reality glasses. According to several sources, including respected analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who often has good leads about Apple projects, production on the tentatively-named “Apple AR Glasses” should begin before year’s end, with a launch date set for the second quarter of 2020.
Created with the idea of perhaps completely replacing the iPhone one day, for now the glasses will work with the iPhone and not as an independent product. The design is still under wraps, but the glasses should synchronise with the iPhone to display, as a superimposition on reality, any messages, emails, maps or games chosen from an App store specific to the glasses.
To create the glasses, Apple will collaborate with Chinese supplier Changying Precision to compete with other companies such as social network Facebook, who could be in talks with Luxottica to develop its own pair of augmented reality glasses.
