New speaker announced for IOA Summit: Robert Dalton

Robert Dalton CAE. LO. Executive Director of the Opticians Association of Canada will be speaking on a relevant topic to all opticians, “I see you : Why See me ?” In a time when opticians are under increasing scrutiny in these days of fast and free information sharing, they need to maintain the trust of the public and confidence in their own skills. Robert says, “I will be speaking on the concept of Professional Judgement. It will be a positive and upbeat presentation aimed at giving Opticians the self awareness tools and confidence to tackle their own professional identity issues going forward in the years ahead.”

Robert is a licensed optician and contact lens fitter and was President of the Opticians Association of Canada. He worked in the Optical field for 20 years before accepting the role as Executive Director of the Opticians Association of Canada. Robert started his career in the optical industry with both in the lab and at the retail level. During that time he has pursued every opportunity to improve his optical knowledge along with human relations, educational, mentoring and administrative skills. Roberts’s professional commitment has extended to his volunteer work with opticians’ associations both national and provincial. He has been involved with the Nova Scotia Society of Dispensing Opticians since 1988, serving as director and then president. He has also had the opportunity to represent Nova Scotia Opticians as their representative to the national association, the Opticians Association of Canada (OAC). Robert was elected President of the OAC in 2008. In 2010 the Board of director appointed Robert Dalton Executive Director of the OAC a position he now serves. In 2015 Robert received his Canadian Association Executive designation from one of Canada’s most highly regarded association management organizations, the Canadian Society of Association Executives. Robert had participated in many out of country and within Canada community projects designed to “give sight” to those individuals most at risk. Robert has worked with the Special Olympics Opening Eyes program and as well works with associations internationally to foster professionalism and growth for Opticians.
