The IOA/SILMO has opened its applications for its 2020 International Optician of the Year Award, recognising the importance of the optician in the optical business and their role in the choice of the optimum products for their clientele.
As well as being able to demonstrate that they are a qualified dispensing optician in the country where they practice, the attributes favoured in the winning candidate will be their professionalism, their communication skills, and an entrepreneurial, innovative spirit paired with a specialisation, creativity, engagement, and advocacy.
Andrew Keirl won first place in 2019, impressing the judges with the quality of the multi-disciplinary practice he created after a career spent training students in the UK, Singapore, Malaysia and Kenya. That year Andrew was also presented with Life Membership of the Association of British Dispensing Opticians, the highest honour awarded by the UK Professional Body for Dispensing Opticians.
IOA members, country members and industry partners will be able to nominate opticians worldwide. The dossiers that they will fill in during the nomination process will be scrutinised by a panel made up of a number of industry experts, and a shortlist of up to four people will be established. The winner, who on top of the honour of receiving the award will also win a trip to SILMO 2021, will be announced during the prestigious SILMO d’OR ceremony, which will take place on the 3rd of October in Paris, France.
If you would like to nominate someone, send a letter stating why to Elaine Grisdale before the 13th of April.
