September is a packed full of optical conferences. Here’s our run-down of the events that will keep you up to date with the latest developments in the field.

Omega 23 and WCO4 Melbourne, Australia

The biggest eye care and eyewear fair in Australia combines with the largest annual optometry clinical conference in the Southern Hemisphere, the fourth World Congress of Optometry.

Keynote speakers include Professor James S Wolffsohn of Aston University UK, previously a clinical research fellow at the University of Melbourne. Professor Susan Cotter, of the Southern California College of Optometry at Marshall B Ketchum University, is a paediatric optometrist and clinician-scientist.

CIOF Beijing: the 34th China International Optics Fair
11–13 September

More than 50,000 delegates and 770 exhibitors are expected at CIOF in Beijing for the industry’s largest annual trade show in Asia. Register by 25 August.

Speakers include Dr. John R. Buch of Johnson & Johnson Vision Care, on improving the comfort and quality of vision with contact lenses and Professor Wolfgang Sickenberger of Ernst Abbe Hochschule, Jena, who offers an update on dry eyes.

The conference offers over 150 educational courses, including managing orbital and ocular trauma and managing glaucoma. Explore everything from optical technology to practice management and business solutions.

A panel of leading speakers will discuss the artificial intelligence landscape: the benefits of integrating AI into your workflow, ways to improve patient outcomes, streamline operations, and enhance your bottom line – as well as the potential pitfalls.

Silmo Paris
29 September – 2 October
Silmo Paris

More than 900 exhibitors will gather from 42 countries, with 1,500 brands. The conference Includes the Silmo d’Or Awards and the Silmo Academy by IOA, with sessions in French and English.

Speakers include Professor David Elliott of the University of Bradford, UK and 2022 International Optician of the Year Grant Hannaford, the first and currently only qualified spectacle lens designer in Australia. Topics include what makes a successful entrepreneur, sports vision in optical practice and the impact of visual ageing on mobility.
