NEW: Senior Optical Assistant course

If you want to improve your optical career and study online, there are courses to help you from ABDO College. Start with the Optical Assistant course for a great introduction to optics, as well as an ideal way to formalise knowledge gained in practice. This course was new last year and has been popular with both employers and students.

Move on to the Senior Optical Assistant course to develop and grow your knowledge and broaden what you can offer to patients. New and improved for 2020, this course now takes one year and is a a natural progression for those who have completed introductory training in optics, or have been working as an optical assistant for some time and want to enhance their knowledge and skills.

Along with ABDO College’s Access courses, both Optical Assistant and Senior Optical Assistant courses will help you gain entry to the Ophthalmic Dispensing Diploma.

The Ophthalmic Dispensing Diploma leads to the gold standard award for dispensing opticians, Fellowship of the Association of British Dispensing Opticians. Study online, with the option to attend ABDO College in Kent for a fortnight twice a year. Practical Examinations take place in the UK, India (Chennai) or Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur). Theory examinations can be sat in a British Consul in your country.
