Brown is the new black, according to predictions from the leading trade fair, Silmo Paris 2022, which ran 23 to 26 September.
The trends forum showcased intense dark browns that are taking over from black as the new staple for frames, in a variety of rich tones: tortoiseshell, mahogany, cacao, bistre, caramel, burnt sienna, bronze, and more.
Composite frames, in metal and plastic, are also popular in designer products. For shapes, bulky curves are in: substantial or even exaggerated. This area includes a visible/invisible concept, with thick frames in crystal and coloured plastic.

The “enlightened classic” theme takes a new approach to familiar eyewear shapes, redesigning, reworking and resizing to bring a fun touch. The idea is to break with the established codes while maintaining a certain elegance. Find out more in Issue 31 of Trends by SILMO, available on SilmoParis
Nearly 27,000 visitors attended the fair, which attracted 750 exhibitors. The next Silmo show is Istanbul, 17 to 22 November.
