International travel may be limited, but IOA Director of Development Elaine Grisdale isn’t letting that hold her back from her usual programme of speaking. Elaine will be seen on three different continents over the next month and a half as she speaks at events in China, Namibia and the UK, all via online links.
Elaine says, “I’m delighted to be speaking at a conference for Namibian eye care professionals on October 10th. The talk for Namibia is a real 360 look at dispensing for children: what frames to choose, how kids’ facial features change with age, lens centration and material considerations, UV considerations, the importance of good fitting when the child collects the glasses, as well as after sales service. There will also be a section on practice ergonomics, three-way communication and how to promote children’s services. It’s a real all round whistle-stop guide to paediatric dispensing.”
In China, Elaine will speak at Vision China, 15 to 17 of October in Dalian. She will be speaking about the importance of continuing education (CET) and continuing professional development (CPD). In China there is no requirement for CET or CPD at the moment however, Vision China organisers Wenzhou Medical University have asked ABDO to share best practice and raise awareness of CET and CPD, to encourage attendees to develop as professionals. Elaine will be speaking alongside Peter Reeve of Stepper UK, who will be speaking on the topic of how choosing the right frames for your customers and managing your stock will improve your business.
Finally, on November 10th, Elaine will be speaking on dementia to members of the Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers, along with Mr Paul Ursell, a cataract specialist.
