New global Women in Eyecare Campaign

OB Malope is an optometrist and Training and Development Consultant at Visionstryt in South Africa. Recently he has been creating and sharing profiles of women in the world of optics as part of a brand new Women in Eyecare Campaign.

“Women are the heartbeat of this incredible industry,” says OB. “Visionstryt has grown significantly over the last few years as a result of the wonderful team of female leaders that I have had the pleasure of working with. I have found that women don’t care about titles and positions, they are more concerned about the making a lasting difference in the industry. We are seeing more women breaking through barriers that exist in the eyecare industry, and are doing it without compromising on the quality of life that they have with their families. The Women in Eyecare campaign came about because we wanted to celebrate the diversity and versatile range of female leaders across the globe because each leader has something unique and special about them.”

Nick Rumney, director of BBR Optometry, who is backing the campaign, says: “I first met OB when at a contact lens meeting when I was an invited speaker. When you are a crusty old speaker on the circuit its incredibly refreshing to meet the next generation. OB is very much that. He’s a product of the new South Africa. Inclusive and inspiring to all around him. He is incredibly productive of material and has drawn many to his cause.”

You can discover more about the Women in Eyecare campaign on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and YouTube. Watch out for some well-known faces from the IOA in future profiles!

If you would like to nominate yourself or a woman in optics who you think should be profiled, you can contact OB via the Visionstryt website.
