SILMO Paris, the optical show that takes place every year in Villepinte, France, is part of a growing family of trade fairs which now ranges from Paris to Istanbul, Bangkok, Sydney, Copenhagen and Berlin, and encompasses 1,650 exhibitors, 53,900 visitors and 110,000m2 of exhibition space.

If you missed the most recent event in Paris, which took place in September, you can still get a feel for the buzzing atmosphere and trend presentations in the video on SILMO’s YouTube channel.

In the video you’ll see that, apart from the 970 professionals who set up stalls to showcase their latest developments, the show’s SILMO Next Futurology Space also immersed visitors in the technology of tomorrow’s eyewear products through sensory experiments, product presentations and talks from start-ups and larger companies developing new, exciting things for the future.

The conversation about tomorrow’s eyewear wasn’t just one-sided though : on the Saturday, 28 September, SILMO Next launched its first ever Hackathon event, in which five international teams with a variety of backgrounds collaborated for 24 hours to imagine the future of optical retail. That night, SILMO also announced the winners of the prestigious SILMO d’OR awards, at a separate gala event that also happened to celebrate the award’s 25th anniversary.

Other products that caught people’s eye were showcased at the Trend Forum, a giant gallery exhibiting products that stood out for their technical achievement as well as their style.

Watch out for the next SILMO Paris event, FUTURISSILMO, which will take place from 2 to 5 October 2020, but in the meantime, take a look at the SILMO Next video, and see if you can catch a glimpse of the IOA!
