The guide is a manual for health planners, outlining strategies and approaches to provide practical, step-by-step support to countries for planning and implementing people-centred eyecare. It covers annual operational planning, as well as mid- to longer term strategic plans.
WHO calls for action to tackle inequities in access within health systems. It demands eyecare becomes an integral part of universal health coverage. All individuals should receive the good quality health services they need without financial hardship.
The eyecare indicator menu provides a resource for states to develop or improve a monitoring framework to check implementation of their strategic plan against objectives, to integrate eyecare into the health information system and to build evidence through data collection.
The package of eyecare interventions helps policymakers and technical decision-makers in low- and middle-income countries to integrate eyecare into the health service policies. Donor and development agencies can use it as a blueprint for programmes.
The competency tool will enable planning and development of the eyecare workforce to a recognised standard of competencies and activities to meet population needs.
